Position Summary:

The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for coordination and successful execution of various research projects for product development and marketing.  This position will function in a cross-disciplinary environment to address lab requests in the areas of cell-culture, image analysis (scanning electron microscopy and micro-CT analysis), and animal study histology. The ideal candidate will have experience or be willing to be trained in image analysis or histology, but must possess training in basic cell culture techniques, sterile procedures, or other laboratory sciences. 

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Conducting cell-culture experiments on surface modifications or biomaterial coupons to assess cell growth, function, and morphology for orthopedic applications using sterile technique
  • Experience with media-based assays; gene expression and cell imaging experience preferred
  • Implementing image analysis of explants or vendor-created parts using scanning electron microscopy
  • Conducting micro-CT scans of tissue or product samples to identify failure points or structural anomalies
  • Managing internal lab requests and provide communication & documentation between requestor and research department
  • Maintaining lab supplies and disposables, as well as maintenance of existing cell-culture and microscope equipment
  • Executing all basic science research testing including, cell culture, image analysis, particle analysis, scanning electron microscopy, data analysis, and report writing
  • Serving as a histology tech, for creating and staining histology slides from animal tissues according to pre-defined protocols
  • In absence of animal studies, maintaining up-to-date lab protocols and animal SOPs (for GLP)
  • Maintaining chemicals or other histology lab documentation, including calibration and equipment files
  • Adhering to the letter and spirit of the company Code of Conduct, the AdvaMed Code, MedTech Code, and all other company policies. Ensure Compliance with applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations, both in the United States and internationally, by completing introductory and annual training and maintaining knowledge of compliance as it applies to your role
  • Representing the company in a professional manner and uphold the highest standards of ethical business practices and socially responsible conduct in all interactions with other employees, customers, suppliers, and other third parties of Globus

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • 1-2 years’ experience in academic or industry lab setting focusing on culture and maintenance of human cells or cell-lines
  • Experience conducting lab-based assays and cell imaging;  other wet-lab experience may be accepted
  • Degree in Sciences or Engineering
  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Project
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time

  • Assisting in the planning and creation of a state-of-the art research laboratory with all necessary equipment
  • In certain cases, additional support may be necessary to prepare conference abstracts or material for manuscript submissions
  • Assisting in animal surgical procedures for in-vivo studies
  • Maintaining lab supplies and equipment files or other documentation for other research departments such as biomechanics and mechanical testing calibration logs
  • Supporting experimental cadaveric biomechanical research studies as initiated by the company

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
