Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for engineering related tasks within the discipline of the hiring department under the guidance of more senior department personnel. Utilizes learned skills to assist the production department to become more efficient. This effort includes, but is not limited to, sets up and operates production equipment for troubleshooting programs, process validation. This individual works with department managers, supervisors, and operators to ensure product quality and throughput. 

Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies. Supports new initiatives and productivity targets for given manufacturing processes. Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products. Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations. 

Essential Functions:

  • Applies machine programming skills learned (as applicable within the discipline of the hiring department)
  • Sets up and operate production equipment as needed to either troubleshoot programs, prove out processes or perform Operation Qualification studies
  • Writes IQ, OQ & PQ protocols compliant with existing SOP’s with assistance from more senior personnel
  • Leads projects of moderate scope for existing families of production
  • Coordinates cross-functional teams to execute and document the manufacturing launch of new/legacy products
  • Supports the development and optimization of manufacturing processes required to accurately and efficiently make spinal implants, from raw material to final cleaning and shipment
  • Develops and completes manufacturing documentation (pFMEA, control plan, process flow, work instructions, and inspection plans)
  • Drives machine/equipment efficiency thru cycle time reduction, waste elimination, tooling improvements, and changeover reductions
  • Performs product/process analysis and troubleshooting for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency
  • Designs, develops, tests, sources, and cost-justify various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
  • Supports design for manufacturability analysis with CNC Programmers and Quality Engineers, and provide input to Development (Design) Engineers
  • Provides suggestions on how to improve product quality and throughput
  • Performs all work in accordance with oral instructions in conformance with company standards including, safety, workmanship, and good housekeeping practices

  • Ensures Compliance with applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations, both in the United States and internationally, by completing introductory and annual training and maintaining knowledge of compliance as it applies to your role

Qualifications: 

  • Machining technology degree, or mechanical engineering degree, or a minimum of two years of hands-on experience as a Manufacturing Engineer within the discipline of the hiring department
  • Capable of utilizing CAM software and tooling knowledge to create CNC programs (as applicable) 
  • Support design for manufacturability analysis with CNC Programmers and Quality Engineers, and provide input to Development (Design) Engineers
  • Familiar with implementing, maintaining, analyzing data to react to various production performance metrics and KPIs
  • Proven ability and fluency in Print Reading and GD&T, Statistical Process Control, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Siemens NX or Solidworks and Gage/fixture design
  • Capable of utilizing inspection equipment to verify products produced within the discipline of the hiring department
  • Possess the ability to work under the guidance of a Manufacturing Engineer II or a Senior Manufacturing Engineer
  • Be capable of executing project functions independently with minimal guidance
  • Be well organized and possesses the ability to multi-task as required
