Position Summary: 

Our rapidly growing division is searching for an enthusiastic firmware engineer wanting to make a difference. Our skillful engineers develop medical robots, surgical navigation platforms, and intra-operative neuromonitoring solutions by working with top surgeons and cross-functional engineering teams. This Firmware Engineering role will be part of the electrical engineering team responsible for designing and implementing embedded firmware for intra-operative neuromonitoring used within our surgical navigation and robotic products. The position will be hands-on with the individual capable of creative and systematic product development with minimum supervision. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Leads the design and development of firmware for embedded systems based on defined requirements.
  • Leads and coordinates firmware architectural concepts and development.
  • Produces or supports documentation throughout the development life cycle of firmware.
  • Reviews new technology for firmware constraints and safety risks and provides input on their mitigation.
  • Manage firmware configurations, builds, releases, and issues tracking using engineering application tools.
  • Facilitates and leads peer code reviews for new or existing firmware requiring changes.
  • Coordinates and leads firmware development tasks with other firmware engineers.
  • Leads firmware integration activities.
  • Ensures source and executable code with proper format and sufficient commenting.
  • Supports Production / Manufacturing, internal testing and external customers when presented with quality / support issues. Prioritizes work to identify the root cause and create a corrective plan that ensures timely resolution of issues.
  • Recommends roles and responsibilities for other firmware engineers based on project resource needs.
  • Maintains compliance with standards typical of the medical industry.
  • Adheres to the letter and spirit of the company Code of Conduct, the AdvaMed Code, MedTech Code, and all other company policies.
  • Ensures Compliance with applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations, both in the United States and internationally, by completing introductory and annual training and maintaining knowledge of compliance as it applies to your role.

Qualifications:

  • Must have at least a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Medical Device experience is a must.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience designing, developing, and leading embedded systems or RTOS application software for medical devices.
  • Experience in ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR part 820 design control processes. 
  • Knowledgeable in IEC 62304 standard.
  • Demonstrated leadership for firmware development within the medical device industry.
  • Successful programming in C and Assembly language for ARM based processors.
  • Familiar with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, USB, and RS232.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and writing skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Attention to detail is a must. 
  • Advanced degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience in digital logic programming using Verilog or VHDL.
  • Experience in DSP using MATLAB, Python and or Texas Instruments development environment.
  • Algorithm development for signal filtering and or signal discrimination.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting PCB schematics.
  • Experience with GitHub and other version control systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
